The dB Audio Namibia Story...
In the beginning
dB Audio Namibia was founded in 2004 by David Benade and Manuel Jacobs, with Ernst Steynberg joining as a partner the following year.
At the time, the founder and managing partner, David Benade, had five years experience as a television sound technician, specialising in location and studio recording as well as audio post-production at the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), complimented by 5 years experience as a freelancer.
Manuel Jacobs had over ten years experience as a technician in theatre and film as well as TV. Ernst Steynberg comes from a TV, theatre, advertising and corporate communications background. dB Audio Namibia was born with a combination of these skills sets.
Who we are today
We are a one-stop shop for the technical management of live event productions. With our approach of using technology to help clients communicate, dB Audio Namibia has become a sought after communications partner for some of the country’s biggest corporate and public institutions and entertainment organisers. Several South African and European clients regularly make use of our services when working in Namibia.
We strive to be an inclusive environment where any Namibian, regardless of age, gender, race, tribe, religious- or sexual orientation, who has a passion for the technical live events industry, can earn a living and create a future.
The backbone of our operations
To date we employ 39 full-time staff and frequently contract a number of freelancers when required. From the onset, we realised that one of our biggest challenges was finding qualified and experienced technicians / engineers / designers for our field. This resulted in us providing on-the-job training and promoting peer education as there are no training institutions in Namibia for practitioners in our industry.
Capacity building remains at the forefront of our operations.
We provide internships for talented individuals and regularly present formal training courses, at times facilitated by international industry professionals. We believe in the development of our people and often send staff for training courses to South Africa. Not only is the actual training invaluable, but the delegates benefit tremendously from the opportunity to travel, as for many, it is their first time to cross Namibia’s borders.
Most staff members have obtained some form of formal qualification whilst working at dB Audio Namibia. These range from basic occupational health & safety certificates, to specialised sound training and advanced rigging- and working at height diplomas.
Each One Teach One
We believe that our company can only be as strong as the industry in which we operate. We actively engage all stakeholders in the live events industry in our regular training and information sessions.
When we started in 2004, there was only one other service provider in the field of live technical event production. Today there are at least 15 other rental companies in Namibia and a number of freelance technicians and engineers. Our hard and soft support to these industry role players has resulted in a healthy, competitive relationship which is beneficial to the progress of the overall industry in Namibia.
Our Equipment
The effort and expense put into our personnel is matched only by our efforts since inception, to be very strategic with our equipment acquisitions. Today, we are proud to have some of the best equipment from reputable manufacturers, accepted by international clients. We also implemented standardized maintenance systems and a modern barcode scanning asset management system.
The Future
We are extremely proud of our development over the past 15 years. dB Audio Namibia has made our mark on the Namibian landscape and we excitedly look forward to continuing this legacy.
