Hunter’s Colour Party

Windhoek’s 2018 festive season kicked off on 01st December when the capital’s youth enthusiastically descended upon the TransNamib sports field for the much anticipated Hunter’s Colour party.  Featuring plenty of local entertainment acts and DJs, dB Audio Namibia supported Mammoth Events with all the technical support required for this very successful event.

Team dB entered 2019 working at three exciting events across the capital, albeit 3 weeks apart. We supported the City of Windhoek with their annual new year’s countdown on 31 December, while a smaller team worked across the road supporting Mammoth Events at the Hilton Windhoek where Hilton and Absolut Vodka was seeing in the new year in style.  And on 20 January, we supported the Chinese Embassy in Namibia as they marked entereing the year of the Pig.

O&L 12 Seasons

The Ohlthaver & List group of companies traditionally mark the end of their formal work year with the 12 Seasons Awards.  It is an opportunity for the senior leaders of all their operating companies to reflect on the year, and to celebrate their achievements.  Last year's 12 Seasons took place on 30 November at The Tannery just outside Windhoek where Sindana Communications organized an informal, barnyard themed party for the execs to kick off their shoes and have some fun.  dB Audio Namibia supported Sindana to transform the former tannery into a rustic yet glamorous venue, befitting Namibia’s largest private employer.

Student Open Day

The dB Audio Namibia Warehouse was a hive of activity on 24 January when 23 NUST students dropped by to find out more about careers in the live events industry.
“I always thought dB Audio is only a sound company, but now I see how there are many other careers that a Computer Science student, such as myself, can consider. I am particularly interested in the lighting and video displays we were shown”, says Lifuna Simataa.
“I am used to helping with the tech at my church, but did not know how advanced the overall technical events industry in Namibia is. I am very excited about the future!”, said Tich Mupeti.

Show Calling Exposure

Show calling is a specialised yet often overlooked field within live event production.  Team dB’s Rusa Reinhordt and Fellemon Ndongo are passionate show callers, so they jumped at an opportunity to latch onto seasoned theatre- & events specialist, Vanessa Nicolau, as she prepared to stage Jo’burg Ballet’s production of ‘Cinderella’, at The Teatro at Montecasino in South Africa during December 2018.
“With corporate events you only call the show once and it’s done. In the theatre, the show needs to be called many more times, sometimes with a different cast and crew. I find this insight very valuable and will certainly apply it when calling shows in future,” explains Rusa. “Theatre show calling has far more cues than any corporate event I have worked on, so I loved learning what all the cues are for and why they are important,” continues Rusa.
“As a theatre practitioner even outside of dB Audio Namibia, I cannot express how valuable this experience has been”, adds Fellemon.
Thank you Vanessa Nicolau Theatre & Events for supporting the Namibian industry through this valuable exposure!

Exposure with PRG Gearhouse

Four of Team dB’s department seniors spent the month of November 2018 in the UAE where they gained maximum experience from a job attachment with PRG Gearhouse.  As the Middle East’s longest serving provider of technical event support, our team was privileged to gain valuable, hands-on experience working on very exciting, high-end projects in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
“I am a Grand Prix fan, so working on the Abu Dhabi Formula One was a dream come true,” enthuses Gillroy Barmann.
“What struck me was how developed the country is.  There is wi-fi literally everywhere, and it doesn’t matter where you need to set up, there will be a 3-phase power socket in the vicinity,” explains Edison Matuzee.
Rubben Makuku highlights the cities they visited: “Everything is so well designed and beautiful, it almost feels like you’re in a sci-fi movie!”.
For Gerhardus Engelbrecht, the people’s friendliness stood out. “Not only were we treated very well by PRG Gearhouse, but even going to a shop you experience customer service like I have never seen before”. Thank you PRG Gearhouse for this incredible opportunity!
